"Take the Wheel" AAA's Parent-Taught Driver Education Program for Teenagers

The AAA Take the Wheel parent-taught driver education kit has been discontinued, as major components of the kit are no longer being produced. If you currently have a Take the Wheel kit, you may continue to use it for your teen and other siblings in your immediate family.

If you are looking for a state-approved driver education program, our AAA How to Drive Online parent-taught driver education program satisfies the mandated 30-hours of classroom training required by the OK DPS – and is 100% online. Visit AAA.com/HTDOK to register or learn more.

Forms and Helpful Information

Phase I (textbook) instruction can be started at any time. However, before Phase II (behind-the-wheel) instruction begins, the student must be at least 15 and 1/2 years of age, possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's Instruction (Learner's) Permit, and the parent must submit an affidavit and have it accepted by the Oklahoma Dept. of Public Safety stating the parent is a licensed driver and the vehicle is properly insured.

Completion of ONLINE Posttest/Final Exam

Once PHASE 1 and 2 are completed, you may make arrangements to have your teen take their online posttest/final exam – which can be completed on their smartphone, tablet or computer.

The final exam is 50 multiple choice questions covering material in the How to Drive student manual. Students will have one opportunity every day, within a 30-day period, to score 70% or better to pass the exam.
