HELPFUL RV AND ATV SAFETY TIPS

You wouldn’t dream of driving your home-away-from-home without RV insurance. And you’re sure to protect the money you’ve sunk into your off-road fun with ATV insurance. But the best way to protect your good times is to practice basic safety. With some care, you could be lucky enough to never need to use your ATV or RV insurance.

RV Safety

Traveling or camping in RVs has become one of the most popular ways for Americans to enjoy their weekends and vacations. It’s fun to get close to nature, see more states, or have a fun place to stay when visiting far-away family. Some tips to help you stay safe while RVing are:

  • If you’re not used to driving an RV, spend plenty of time practicing before your road trip. Become proficient at backing up since you may need to back into your campsite.
  • Make sure you check your reservations before you go.
  • Plan alternate routes in case of road closures or construction.
  • Do not feed the local wildlife.
  • Do not park your RV in unauthorized areas.
  • Bring along extra safety items such as water, flashlights, maps, and a cell phone or radio.

ATV Safety

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there are more than 700 deaths and 100,000 injuries each year involving ATVs. Here are a few safety tips that can help you and your family:

  • The CPSC recommends that all ATV drivers—adults and children—take a hands-on ATV safety course from a qualified instructor.
  • Stay off-road. Even though some states allow ATVs on the road now, these vehicles were not designed to be driven on pavement and could turn over or have a collision with a car or truck.
  • Never allow a child younger than 6 to drive an ATV. Make sure children under age 16 drive a youth model with a speed limiter for safety.
  • Always wear a helmet and protective gear.

Choosing the Best ATV or RV Insurance

Stay safe, have fun, and get the right ATV insurance to protect your investment—and your fun. And when it comes to RV insurance, talk with your agent to make sure your coverage protects everything you need it to including your truck, trailer, RV, or car if you’re towing that as well.
