HARTFORD, CT (April 16, 2021) – Many Connecticut drivers are seeing a slight decrease in price at the pump this week as supplies of gasoline have increased and helped to minimize pump price increases as demand for gasoline increased. Continued growth in total domestic gasoline supply will likely help to keep pump prices in check through this weekend.

Today’s national gas price average is $2.86, unchanged in the last week, down a penny in the last month, and up $1.03 from this time last year.

“On the week, gas price averages in Connecticut have seen very little change, however that change has been in the form of a decrease,” says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “Connecticut’s state gas average is flat, following the same trend as the national average.”

Crude prices have increased week-over-week due to continuing market optimism that crude demand may increase more than expected due to increasing vaccine rollouts. WTI settled at $63.15 per barrel on Wednesday, the first time since March 17 that the price settled at more than $62 per barrel. Additionally, the EIA’s weekly report revealed that total domestic crude inventory dropped last week, contributing to price increases. If crude prices continue to rise and remain high, pump prices will likely follow suit.

In Connecticut, the average price of gas is now $2.88, unchanged on the week, down a penny since last month and 88 cents higher than last year on this date.

As usual, the price of gas across CT varies by region:

• Bridgeport - $2.94, down a penny since last week
• Hartford - $2.83, down a penny since last week
• New Haven/Meriden - $2.86, down a penny since last week
• Norwich/New London - $2.91, down two cents since last week
