AAA School Safety Patrollers Encouraging Adults Not to Drive #Intexticated

Distracted driving puts everyone at risk, including children. That’s why AAA School Safety Patrollers - all fifth graders from nearby Flanders Elementary - will be speaking out during the Grand Opening Saturday of the new AAA Car Care in Southington, encouraging all the adults who stop by to stop driving #intexticated.

The students, proudly wearing their AAA Patroller badges, will be asking all AAA members and other visitors to the store to please ‘Take the Pledge’ not to drive intexticated.

“As AAA’s new Public Service Announcement dramatically illustrates, distracted driving puts everyone at risk,” says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “We are extremely proud of these youngsters who are doing their part to help change adult behaviors”. (See the PSA HERE)

The students will not be alone in their efforts. Officers from the Southington Police Department will be conducting ‘distracted driving enforcement’ along Queen Street Saturday, and will also be at the store from 10a-2p, joining the kids in driving home the #DontDriveIntexticated message.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving kills 9 people a day and injures thousands more.

With that in mind, AAA launched its #DontDriveIntexticated Campaign at the beginning of April (which is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month) effectively equating Distracted Driving with Drunk Driving.

The new AAA Car Care at 755 Queen Street in Southington is a first-of-its-kind in Connecticut, in that in addition to traditional Member Services, Travel, Insurance, the AAA Driving School and DMV Express Licensing Services, it also has a full Car Care Center, with 8 service bays.

The Grand Opening event runs Saturday, April 20, from 10a-2p.
