AAA Rewards Member’s Honesty

No one noticed the AAA member who leaned over to pick up something on the ground at the entrance to the AAA office in West Hartford…but they sure took notice when she then tried to find out who had lost the $100 bill!

She literally went around the store asking others who were buying memberships or planning trips whether they’d lost the money” says Kate Pinard, a AAA Member Advisor who watched the scene unfold. “It was surprising to say the least - and wonderfully refreshing!”  The money did not belong to anyone in the store.

As though that was not an honest enough effort in itself, the member then turned the money in to AAA staff in case the person who had dropped it came back hoping to find it. The AAA staff on hand says everyone who witnessed it was just kind of stunned.

But no one was more stunned than the AAA member who lost the money in her hurry in and out of the store.

“I was at the supermarket when I realized I lost it and raced back over to AAA where they were closing up shop for the day” says Alicia Starkie, who admits to having little hope. “I explained that I just needed to ask quickly whether anyone had turned in a $100 bill and when they said yes, I really could not believe it”.

Starkie has since been in touch with the member who found the money and rewarded her with a gift.

Today, AAA will also be rewarding the member for her honesty, surprising her with a gift that is of even greater value than the $100 she turned in.

“If the honest member pocketed the money rather than turning it in, the member who lost it would always have a negative feeling about something that happened at AAA. Now, just the opposite is true so we want to express our appreciation” says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford.

This is a story that AAA staffers can’t stop talking about so we wanted to share the ‘good news’ and give credit where credit is due.

Both members involved will be at AAA in West Hartford at 3:30 today so our staff can present the member who found the money with an appropriate reward.
