Average Price of Gas in CT is Lower than National Average 

For the first time in years, the average price of gas across Connecticut has been lower for most of this week, than the average price of gas nationwide.

“This is highly unusual, given that the price of gas in Connecticut is often 20 cents or more higher than the national average,” says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “Given that we’re coming up on Tax Day, it’s a timely turn of events for motorists but, unfortunately, the reversal will be short-lived.

The reason Connecticut gas is less expensive than the average nationwide, is that most gasoline retailers across the Northeast have yet to fully transition to the more expensive summer blend. And gas prices out west are pushing the national average considerably higher. (See nationwide averages map here)

According to GasPrices.AAA.com, the nationwide average is $2.81 for a gallon of regular unleaded, as compared to the average here in Connecticut of $2.79.

The price of gas across Connecticut has been rising steadily since mid-February and is expected to continue climbing until Memorial Day weekend or the first week in June when it usually peaks for the season.
