CT Gas Drops Below $2.50
Lowest Price at this time of Year since 2017
The average price of gas across Connecticut today is $2.48 for a gallon of regular unleaded - the lowest it has been on this date since 2017. The downward trend mirrors the national trend which has been largely influenced by falling crude prices as the result of a corona-driven drop in global demand and the oil price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia. Today's national average is $2.35 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
“It is not unusual to see gas prices fall early in the year when demand drops off but prices are being pushed down further by two significant factors that don't typically come in to play", says Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. "Gas typically begins an upward swing towards the end of the month which continues in advance of the busy summer driving season but even that sharp increase may look different this year".
According to AAA Gas Prices, the average for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $2.48, down about 5 cents over the past week, 8 cents in a month and also 8 cents less than last year at this same time
As usual, gas prices vary by region:
Bridgeport - $2.58
Hartford - $2.44
New Haven/Meriden - $2.46
New London/Norwich - $2.46
