PHILADELPHIA, PA (June 18, 2020) Coopertown Elementary School in Bryn Mawr, is one of 10 schools across the country to receive the Charles M. Hayes Advancement Grant for their AAA School Safety Patrol program from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Coopertown Elementary received a $500 2019-2020 AAA School Safety Patrol Charles M. Hayes Grant to help grow and sustain the school’s AAA School Safety Patrol program.

“Coopertown’s Safety Patrol is thrilled to receive the Charles M. Hayes Advancement Fund Grant from AAA. This is our second year having a Safety Patrol and there are so many things we want to accomplish,” says Elizabeth Mastrocola, Coopertown Elementary Principal. “We want to have township police come in to talk about safety next year, purchase ponchos and umbrellas for Safety Patrol members and create more safety videos."

More than 12,000 Patrollers currently participate in the AAA School Safety Patrol program in nearly 300 Philadelphia-area elementary schools. It is the largest school-based safety program in the world with more than 679,000 Patrollers in 35,000 schools across North America and 30 countries, providing a safer environment for child pedestrians and offering a spectrum of educational opportunities for schoolchildren.

The AAA School Safety Patrol Charles M. Hayes Advancement Fund, administered by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, awards AAA School Safety Patrol Advancement Grants, which expand or enhance schools’ existing Patrol programs. In its fourteenth year, the emphasis of the grant program is on the safety and educational benefits the program provides to students and the lifesaving contributions to the community.
