Hello, just because we haven’t seen snow doesn’t mean drivers haven’t needed AAA’s help this week. Huge spikes in calls began Tuesday morning and have continued. Ride along with a AAA auto technician Friday, between 9:15 – 10:30 or 3 – 4:30. Call 918-935-9318 (Mark) for meet-up location.
Oh, What A Week! AAA Rescues 6,000 Stranded Oklahomans
January 5, 2018 - - - With sub-freezing temperatures enveloping Oklahoma, AAA’s auto rescue fleet knew this would be a week to remember. Calls for help from stranded motorists have averaged 2,000 a day– most with battery and tire issues – after the long holiday weekend. That’s 30 percent higher than the same period last year, according to AAA spokesperson Mark Madeja.
“Wednesday alone, battery issues were up nearly 40 percent from this date last year,” he said. “But those calling AAA were actually the lucky ones. They had a reliable and prepared auto technician available 24/7 no matter where they found themselves without a working vehicle.”
AAA Oklahoma notes that a sudden cold snap wreaks havoc on batteries and tire inflation. Batteries more than three years old are especially vulnerable. When temperatures drop below 32 degrees, batteries lose as much as 35 percent of their effectiveness. At zero degrees that dips to 60 percent, yet a car engine needs about twice as much power to start.
With the potential for winter car issues just underway, AAA membership is appealing to many. “Unless you have great flexibility, you need a reliable plan when your car won’t start,” Madeja said. “As generous as Oklahomans are to lend a helping hand to each other, few have the resources to get you back on track quickly when car trouble strikes.” Signing up for AAA membership is as simple as going to ok.aaa.com or stopping in at one of 55 convenient AAA stores in Oklahoma. The not-for-profit association also offers these tips to drivers:
