Drivers Invited to FREE CarFit and Car Care Event

CarFit Helps Mature Drivers Find Their Perfect “Fit”

September 12, 2018 - AAA South Dakota is offering motorists a FREE safety fair to get your car ready for winter and to check how well drivers 65 years-of-age and older “fit” in their vehicles. The events will be held Friday, September 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Center for Active Generations at 2300 West 46^th Street, Sioux Falls.

Both events will run simultaneously in the north parking lot of Active Generations; no reservations or AAA membership required, and there is no charge. 

CarFit is a free event, open to the public. Mature drivers are encouraged to come by, driving their personal vehicle. Once there, trained CarFit technicians will perform a quick, but comprehensive check of how well the driver and his or her vehicle work together to maximize safety.

The 12-point CarFit check will cover such items as mirror positioning, car seat and headrest adjustment, easy access to gas and brake pedals, clear line of sight over the steering wheel, sufficient room between the driver and the steering wheel, seat belt use and ability to look over one’s shoulder when changing lanes. 

Vehicle inspections will also be performed. Four out of five cars and pickups on the road right now are running on under-inflated tires. Properly inflated tires improve fuel efficiency and enhance vehicle handling.  

Besides tires, AAA will also be inspecting: lubricants and fluids, batteries, hoses and belts, lights and horns, wiper blades and washer fluid.
