AAA Projects 960,000 Motorists Will Need Roadside Rescue During Year-End Holiday Season–– 62,000 From the Mid-Atlantic Region

Hamilton, NJ, December 20, 2018 – AAA Mid-Atlantic anticipates it will come to the aid of approximately 62,000 stranded motorists throughout its territory (NJ, DE, PA, MD, DC, VA) during the year-end holiday period, as 112.5 million holiday travelers choose to leave home for their holiday travel plans.  Between December 22, 2018 and January 1, 2019 the motor club will be busy with battery replacements, jump starts, changing tires and more.

In the Mid-Atlantic region AAA expects to rescue over 62,000 motorists; with 16,358 in New Jersey, as 2.7 million New Jersey residents travel 50 miles or more from home with 90% traveling by car. Nationwide, AAA anticipates it will come to the aid of 960,000 stranded motorists during the year-end holiday period, as 102.1 million holiday travelers choose to take to the roadways for their holiday travel plans.

“Becoming stranded on the roadway can quickly dampen your holiday spirit,” said Tracy E. Noble, spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic.  “Whether you are planning local day trips or long distance year-end holiday travel, having your vehicle properly maintained and prepared for the rigors of holiday driving will help ensure it gets you to your destination safely and without incident.”

AAA recommends two fundamental things motorists can do to decrease the likelihood of their vehicle leaving them stranded:

  • Have your vehicle serviced regularly based on the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. This is the best way to catch problems before they arise; and
  • Identify a quality repair shop, and use that facility for all of your vehicle repairs and maintenance. Repeated use of a trustworthy shop allows a motorist to develop a good relationship with the service staff, and allows the repair technicians to get to know the vehicle and make needed service recommendations in a timely manner.

AAA offers a free public service to help consumers find quality auto repair facilities that meet and maintain high professional standards for training, equipment, cleanliness and customer service. Motorists can either look for a AAA Car Care Center in their area or a AAA Approved Auto Repair sign at local auto repair facilities, or search for a nearby AAA Approved shop online at AAA.com/Repair

AAA provides automotive, travel, and insurance services to 58 million members nationwide and nearly two million members in New Jersey.AAA advocates for the safety and mobility of its members and has been committed to outstanding road service for more than 100 years. AAA is a non-stock, non-profit corporation working on behalf of motorists, who can now map a route, find local gas prices, discover discounts, book a hotel, and track their roadside assistance service with the AAA Mobile app (AAA.com/mobile) for iPhone, iPad and Android.
