HARTFORD, CT (April 30, 2021) – Local drivers saw another week of increases at the pump. Connecticut’s gas average followed the national average, both increasing by a penny on the week.
Crude prices have increased this week pushing the average gas price up. But, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic stocks were up and there was a slight drop in demand, helping to keep gas prices in check – a trend that will likely continue through the weekend.
In Connecticut, the average price of gas is now $2.92, up a penny on the week, up three cents since last month and $1 higher than last year on this date.
Today’s national gas price average is $2.89, up a penny in the last week, up three cents in the last month, and up $1.12 from this time last year.
“Local drivers saw more increases at the gas pump this week,” said Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “With the CDC’s recent announcement that fully-vaccinated people can travel across the country with minimal risk and rumors that Europe could reopen this summer, demand is going to build, potentially pushing prices higher.”
Crude oil prices increased earlier this week after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies recommended to leave in place a recent agreement to gradually increase crude production starting in May. At the OPEC+ ministerial meeting on June 1, the cartel will meet via videoconference to review output levels for July and August.
As usual, the price of gas across CT varies by region:
- Bridgeport - $2.98, unchanged cents since last week
- Hartford - $2.89, up two cents since last week
- New Haven/Meriden - $2.90, unchanged since last week
- Norwich/New London - $2.94, up a penny since last week
