The closure of schools and businesses has exacerbated food insecurity and shortages as low-income Americans struggle to find their next meal. Recently, AAA Club Alliance Associates supported this issue and completed their AAA Day of Citizenship: Stepping Up for Hunger campaign.
The campaign consisted of a Step Challenge where Associates were asked to reach the goal of 1 million steps within a week & when that goal was reached, AAA Club Alliance would donate 100,000 meals to Feeding America’s network of local food banks within AAA Club Alliance’s territory.
Due to vast and unprecedented Associate engagement, the goal was surpassed within 24 hours. A second goal of 7 million steps was announced and Tom Wiedemann, AAA Club Alliance’s President & CEO, committed an additional donation amount of 100,000 meals, for a total donation of 200,000 meals. That new goal was reached within 4 days. By the close of the campaign, our AAA Club Alliance Associates contributed a total of 22.8 million steps within a 7 day period. That is nearly 23 times our original goal.
“ACA has a rich history of supporting our local communities in which our Associates live and work,” said AAA Club Alliance President & CEO, Tom Wiedemann. “It is part of our culture and part of who we are as an organization. These results are a testament to that commitment.”
