2023 Review: Volkswagen ID.4

At its most basic level, incorporating a battery-electric vehicle into your daily routine shouldn’t require more thought than using your cell phone. The Volkswagen ID.4 meets that standard.

On the road, this compact crossover delivers both lively acceleration and enough battery range (about 275 miles) to get you through a couple of days of normal driving. The fact that it offers both more common Level 2 and faster Level 3 charging options is a definite plus.

Inside, the quiet four-passenger cabin is spacious, with room for 64.2 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded. Unfortunately, there are also some overly complicated controls, including just two power window switches to control all four windows.

Ultimately, though, the Volkswagen ID.4 is a high-tech machine that makes going green relatively painless.
