A tortilla station presses fresh tortillas on the spot, and row upon row displays Buc-ee’s own spices, hot sauces, and salsas.

More than snacks: The Buc-ee’s marketplace

Shopping for gifts at a highway travel center may seem unusual, but Buc-ee’s quickly shatters that stereotype. The aisles are packed with Texas-inspired finds, from cutting boards shaped like the Lone Star State and Tex-Mex cookbooks to Western-style original art featuring cactus, cowboys, and cattle. High-value items—including Oakley sunglasses, leather belts, jewelry, and women’s apparel—mingle seamlessly with the souvenirs, making it feel more like a curated marketplace than a pit stop.

The kitchen section alone could justify a visit. Tastefully designed dishes, platters, and pitchers line the shelves, while kitchen towels invite a laugh with cheeky sayings like, “I make wine disappear. What’s your superpower?” It’s the kind of place where browsing turns into buying before you realize it.

Restrooms are par-for-the-course at highway-adjacent gas stations—but at Buc-ee’s, they’re practically legendary. Clean-as-a-whistle loos are part of the brand’s identity, and in 2012, the Buc-ees in New Braunfels, Texas, was voted America’s Best Restroom in a national contest, beating out hotels, restaurants, and other public facilities.

Staff monitor and clean the bathrooms around the clock to keep them gleaming. At the New Braunfels location alone there are 83 toilets to choose from. To make the experience even easier for travelers, many locations have installed color-coded stall indicator lights lights above each stall that glow green when a stall is free and red when it's occupied.

Beloved across the South and increasingly beyond, the Buc-ee’s empire is on a growth tear. As of late 2025, the chain operates about 54 locations across 11 states. Industry reports and company plans point toward continued expansion, with the chain on track to surpass 70 locations and enter additional states by the late 2020s.
