Even for a luxury automotive brand that has long played up its sporty side, the Acura TLX A-Spec earns high marks.

This mid-range version of the all-new compact TLX sedan has classic sport sedan proportions. In fact, it looks the part every bit as much as any of its pricier European rivals.

Of course, no one buys a sport sedan for looks alone, and the TLX A-Spec doesn’t disappoint from the driver’s seat. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine puts out a robust 272 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, but the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive improves performance on both dry and dicey pavements.

The attractive passenger cabin is done up in high-quality materials, including genuine wood trim and perforated leather upholstery with suede inserts. About the biggest nit to pick here is the center console touchpad that moves the cursor on the large 10.2-inch dashtop display, an arrangement that can be a tad awkward.

Ultimately, the Acura TLX A-Spec deserves an A-plus among sport sedans.
