IN THE SCHOOLS
From 1920 to present day, the AAA School Safety Patrol Program plays an important role in helping young students learn and fulfill leadership roles.
The presence of a AAA School Safety Patrol wearing the familiar belt & badge is a nationally recognized symbol alerting motorists to drive carefully, for school children are in the area.
Now, more than 654,000 children throughout the country participate in the program.
In 2020, the AAA School Safety Patrol will celebrate its 100th Anniversary. As a peer to peer leadership development program, Safety Patrols are trained to recognize traffic safety and other hazards to assist in keeping fellow classmates safe on their journeys to and from school. To commemorate this significant milestone, we are asking all former members of the AAA School Safety Patrol to Share Their Story and submit short narratives that describe their past experience in the program. If you would like to participate, please submit your narrative by clicking on the link below.

I promise to do my best to:
Report for duty on time
Perform my duties faithfully
Strive to prevent injuries, always setting a good example myself
Obey my teachers and officers of the patrol
Report dangerous student practices
Strive to earn the respect of fellow students
The official look of the AAA School Safety Patrol is the fluorescent yellow/green Sam Browne belt. Belts should be worn over the right shoulder and clasped in the front. Badges should be pinned on the shoulder strip of the belt, at chest level. The only time the badge should be removed from the belt is when the badge or belt is being cleaned. Repeated removal of the badge will eventually cause the pin to break.

. . . today's volunteers, tomorrow's leaders!
The AAA School Safety Patrol plays an important role in helping young students learn responsibility and fill leadership roles.
Millions of boys and girls have honorably served their classmates since the AAA School Safety Patrol program began in 1920’s. Interest in the program has spread around the world to at least 30 other countries. The experience is the same — a reduction in traffic death rates.
Boys and girls who contribute their time as AAA School Safety Patrols deserve special thanks for their efforts. So as a “Thank You” and a commemoration of the 95th year of the program, AAA created a special video.
The video debuts our Patrol Anthem written and sung by AAA School Safety Patrols. It can be used for educational purposes to emphasize that “Safety’s Always First.”
We are the safety patrols / We help other kids while we’re at school
Focused, kind, and responsible / always good role models, good role models
Put out my arms, gotta stop the children / They’re looking up to me
We wear our belts with pride, got our badges too
We say our pledge so proud, because safety’s always first
We are the leaders of our school
Oh, Oh, safety’s always first
