Q: Can I use something other than expensive gasoline to fuel my car?

A: Many cars can be converted to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), and it works well. Before making the conversion, however, check the cost of the needed components, and verify that the installation will comply with EPA regulations. Also, make sure you can refuel. Public CNG stations are rare, and even if you have natural gas at home, refueling will require a costly compressor. The total cost can come to thousands of dollars. So, while converting your car to run on CNG is possible, it is probably too expensive to be practical.
