2022 Review: Jeep Grand Cherokee

If the Jeep name conjures up images of a bare-bones off-roader, the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee will pleasantly surprise you.

The downright luxurious top-of-the-line Summit trim level I drove had all the bells and whistles you can imagine—and a few you probably can’t. This latter list includes front seats with built-in massage, a 10.3-inch digital display for the front-seat passenger, a forward-facing trail camera, a night vision system and an ultra-high-end 950-watt McIntosh audio system with 19 speakers.

On the road, my tester’s 357-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (a 293-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 is standard) was overkill for everyday motoring, but it’s the way to go if trailer towing is in your future. While both handling and ride comfort are decent, there are probably better choices if you’re hoping for a plush motoring experience.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a vehicle that will let you do your off-pavement exploring in comfort and style, the all-new Grand Cherokee might just change your mental picture of a Jeep for good.
