Sponsored Content

When someone you know loses a friend or family member, it can be difficult to decide when and how best to show support. Sometimes a simple phrase such as, "I'm so sorry for your loss,"can be extremely meaningful.  Here are some tips that might come in handy when consoling a loved one.

1. LISTEN
Try not to interrupt or offer advice. Just let them tell you how they feel and share memories of their loved one. It's such an important part of the healing process.

2. BE SPECIFIC WHEN OFFERING HELP
Tell them what you're going to help with and when so they don't have to figure that out. For example, "I'm coming over with groceries on Saturday."

3. NAVIGATE SOCIAL MEDIA APPROPRIATELY
When acknowledging the news of a loss, stick with the communication medium through which you initially received the information. Social media responses should be kept brief unless you're sending a private message.

4. SEND A CONDOLENCE GIFT
Show your concern and support by sending a remembrance gift to the service or to the home. Choose from floral arrangements, gourmet food & gift baskets, plants and heartwarming meals.
