5 Helpful Tips for First-time Movers

YOUR GUIDE TO A STRESS-FREE MOVE

Sponsored Content

Making a big move can be a little overwhelming. From planning to unpacking, and everything in between, being prepared ahead of time can help make moving day go more smoothly.

Here are some tips to help first-time movers actually enjoy moving.

TAKE INVENTORY
Take time to go through all your belongs and take inventory of everything to be moved into your new home. Visit every room and sort out what you want to keep. If you have unwanted items, like clothes or furniture, consider donating them before your move.

RESERVE A RENTAL TRUCK
It’s recommended that you reserve a moving truck about a month before moving. When picking your truck, consider the number of rooms and size of the furniture that you’ll be packing. You can find a Penske truck that fits your needs.

STOCK UP ON MOVING SUPPLIES

It’s never too early to get moving on packing supplies. You’ll want to get boxes, packing tape, markers, labels, bubble wrap, ropes and bungee cords. These items can easily be purchased online at any time.

START PACKING

You’ve got the supplies, and now you’re 3 or 4 weeks out. It’s time to begin boxing up the items you won’t need right away. Make sure to label all boxes with the room they will be going into and what’s inside. This will make setting up your new home so much easier.

PREPARE FOR THE DRIVE

Get comfy, adjust the seat and mirrors, and prepare for the drive. Know the truck’s height and choose a route that accommodates that height (no low bridges, etc.) Drive safely. Look for road signs, obey all traffic laws, change lanes slowly, and never tailgate.
