Although AAA has long been a household name when it comes to towing stranded motorists, jumping batteries, and changing tires, AAA Tire & Auto centers and AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities create a nationwide web ready and waiting to provide automotive services for all drivers, whether they are Members or not. By leveraging over a century of automotive expertise, AAA delivers affordable, knowledgeable, and comprehensive care for vehicles with some amazing benefits that may surprise you.
AAA Approved versus AAA owned & operated auto repair shops
Before we get started on what maintenance and repair services AAA offers, we should clear up some differences between the different types of shops that sport the AAA logo. For those unfamiliar with the repair and maintenance AAA provides, it can be confusing to tellthe difference between a “AAA Approved” shop versus a “AAA Tire & Auto” facility. And while you may assume they are the same thing, they’re not.
AAA approved auto repair shops:
AAA Approved shops are independently-owned automotive maintenance and repair locations that have been certified by their respective AAA club to meet minimum automotive repair and customer service standards. AAA Approved shops are evaluated on a regular basis by AAA employees to ensure that they meet and maintain the following standards:
- Shops must use Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts for all repairs
- Shop tools and equipment must meet minimum technology standards as well as use modern computerized diagnostic tools
- Shop technicians must be ASE certified, which means they have 1-3 years' of hands-on work experience and have passed the ASE certification exam
- Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings must be strong
- Locations must be clean and comfortable with comfortable bathrooms and waiting areas for customers
- Shops must dispose of waste responsibly and legally

AAA owned & operated auto repair shops:
AAA auto repair shops are owned and operated by the local AAA club and often feature travel and insurance agents working onsite to assist with all aspects of AAA membership. Even though both AAA Approved and AAA Owned & Operated auto repair shops will offer a full range of automotive services for members and non-members alike, AAA Owned & Operated locations allow customers with AAA memberships to take full advantage of their membership benefits in one convenient location.
The great thing about both types of locations is that if you are a AAA member, you can expect to receive additional benefits and discounts when you utilize them for maintenance and service. And, in addition to the membership benefits AAA members can expect, you can also rest easy knowing that any work done on your vehicle is backed by AAA’s 24-month/24,000 mile warranty.
What types of automotive services does AAA perform?
Whether your car needs a new battery, suspension work, a new head gasket, or any standard maintenance items, the friendly and knowledgeable staff at AAA owned and operated and AAA Approved auto repair shops can diagnose problems, recommend a course of action, and perform the service for you. So, whether your car is a domestic or an import, you can trust ASE certified technicians to handle whatever automotive issue you have, all while providing knowledgeable advice and excellent service.
