Whether you’re there to catch the fireworks or just want to take in some American history in honor of the country’s birthday, Amtrak Vacations has got the perfect itinerary for you to take in the history and culture of the United States – and it doesn’t have to be July 4 to do so. Here are seven destinations across the United States you can visit any day of the year, and should be on your red, white, and blue bucket list:

  1. Washington, DC - With Amtrak Vacations, you can explore iconic landmarks, such as the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Smithsonian museums, while enjoying comfortable and easy train connections through Washington’s historic Union Station. Amtrak Vacations offers hotel accommodation options throughout the city, so you will never be too far from a famous landmark in the Nation’s Capital.
  2. Boston - As one of the birthplaces of the American Revolution and the gateway to New England, Boston is a great destination to celebrate the USA. With Amtrak Vacations, you can explore the Freedom Trail, visit the USS Constitution Museum, and see the famous Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. Whether it's the starting point of an East Coast rail adventure or your destination for a star-spangled getaway, Boston is a great spot to enjoy an Amtrak Vacation.
  3. Yellowstone National Park - America’s first national park has been capturing the hearts and minds of visitors since President Ulysses S. Grant and Congress established it in 1872. Amtrak Vacations offers several packages that connect travelers to this wildlife wonderland of more than 2.2 million acres from cities nearby, whether Yellowstone is their only destination or part of a grander tour of the United States’ spectacular national parks in the western part of the country.
  4. New York City - The Big Apple is often the first stop for visitors to the United States, and Amtrak Vacations makes it easy to find the perfect hotel and sightseeing activities. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned NYC traveler, you’re bound to discover something new. Choose from one of our carefully selected hotels in the heart of the top attractions like Times Square, or explore the neighborhoods that make up one of the world’s greatest cities.
  5. New Orleans - Visit this exciting, colorful city with a personality unlike any other to truly understand the melting pot that is the United States. From its roots under the French and Spanish flags to becoming one of America’s cultural hotspots, enjoy “The Big Easy” by making it easy to visit, leaving the planning to us. We’ve got top hotels right on the doorstep of the French Quarter and sightseeing and activities that let you "laissez les bon temps rouler.”
  6. Philadelphia - One of the oldest cities in America, the “City of Brotherly Love” is overflowing with history and hometown hospitality. Delve into American history with visits to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House. Visit America’s birthplace as part of a larger East Coast vacation or make Philly your main destination.
  7. Savannah - One of the gems of the American South, Savannah is a city of traditional Southern hospitality, architecture and cuisine blended with a modern charisma and lively mix of leisure and entertainment options. Tour downtown and the historic districts viewing stately antebellum mansions and renovated cotton warehouses. We offer vacations that pair Savannah with other Southern cities like Charleston and more.
