Packing Tips
Now that you’ve decided on a vacation to the Dominican Republic, here are a few suggestions on what to pack.
- You’ll need a passport (for your convenience, you can get your passport photos taken at AAA). Before leaving home, make two copies of your documents— including your passport, airline ticket, and hotel vouchers. Bring a copy in your carry-on bag, and leave the other with someone back home, along with your AAA Travel Agent’s contact information, just in case.
- Pack for comfort; include walking shoes, a hat, and lots of sunscreen. Bring a pair of jeans if you plan on horseback riding, tennis shoes if you want to play tennis, and a light jacket for breezy evenings. Women will want to get dressed up at night in “resort chic” attire. Many restaurants require men to wear long pants at night, so check with your travel agent for specific information.
- Pack a change of island-appropriate clothing in your carry-on bag, along with a bathing suit, sandals, 3oz of sunscreen, hat, and a cover-up. This way if you arrive before your room is ready, you head to the beach instead of waiting in the lobby. And don’t forget to pack a high-SPF sunscreen and mosquito repellent in your checked luggage.
- Remember your camera and other electronic chargers. The electricity is the same as in the U.S., so you won’t need a converter, but an extension cord with extra outlets is a good idea.
- Check with your cell phone provider to determine what type of plan you have or may need to communicate with the folks back home. Many resorts now offer free Wi-Fi.
- Before you go, visit your neighborhood AAA Store or go to AAA.com/OnlineStore to check out the selection of lightweight luggage and carry-ons, travel pillows, and many other items that will make your trip go more smoothly.
